The SAMDA Vision

There is no document more inspirational than the Preamble of the Constitution of India for crafting a “state of relatedness” ecosystem in order to work towards the vision of “making others more” in the democratic quest for a dignified social coexistence through negotiated fraternal solidarity

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

  • JUSTICE: social, economic and political;

  • LIBERTY: of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;

  • EQUALITY: of status and of opportunity;

  • FRATERNITY: assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

  • IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION

We, the People of India, may be a fascinating example of what diversity of mind-boggling proportions in terms of multiple variables each of them with their own intricate variations resulting in a bewildering web of complex relationships looks like; but as citizens of a sovereign Republic have been conferred with equality irrespective of whatever may be the social identity of individuals - through the one-adult-one-vote right to vote mechanism from Day One of the birth of the Republic. This constitutes the basis of the foundational design of the social and political state of relatedness which gives this nation of nationalities and communities of multiple identities the impetus to strive to fulfil the vision of “making others more” as citizens through negotiated fraternal solidarity. Bridging the gap between this aspirational state of relatedness and actual lived experiences and situational realities is the perennial democratic challenge.
